Part 2 Graduation

The University of Cambridge certainly has a unique graduation ceremony. After parading from the red-brick halls of Robinson College en-masse with my college mates (rather than course mates), an almost silent ceremony was held in Senate House and interspersed with kneeling and ceremonial finger-holding of the Praelector. We had the added excitement of a woman fainting in the audience too! Unperturbed, the Vice-Chancellor ploughed on with the ceremony which of course was conducted mostly in Latin.

The Congregation ceremony was sandwiched by my final lunch at Robinson, and afterwards with a drinks reception at the Department of Architecture. The ‘final crit’ was thankfully back in July, so there had been enough time to get over the viva voce; I could enjoy what was probably the last night all of our MAUD cohort would be gathered together in the Colin St John Wilson building.

Despite Cambridge’s oddities - or perhaps because of them - it was a wonderful and memorable day.
