La Festa Nazionale in L'Aquila

Republic Day in Italy, Tuesday 2nd June 2015.

There was a refreshing pause in the construction work throughout the city centre, and the momentary peace was enjoyed in the sun by tourists - day-trippers and local people returning to their centre. The bars remained open, and the squares felt relatively lively. As ever, the main activity took place along Via Corso Vittorio Emanuele; however, a number of tourists were delving into the construction site - today eerily quiet - that constitutes the rest of the city centre.
